I have become quite the food lover after traveling the world for 20 years while I was enlisted in the Air Force. 5 years ago when I retired and moved back to North Dakota, all I could think about was how I was going to miss all the great food I had experienced. Now, keep in mind, most ethnic food served in the United States has been adapted to meet our palate. However, after moving to Bismarck, I have found some great authentic places to eat great food.
EAT Thai Resteraunt
This is a food truck that was started by a resident of the apartments I used to manage. This IS authentic Thai food. Everything I have eaten here has been wonderful, with the Panang Curry being my favorite. The combination between the sweet coconut milk and spicy curry sauce is outstanding! Check out the website for their current location.
Fire Flour Pizza
Neapolitan Pizza at its finest. All fresh ingredients, dough made daily and fermented for 48 hours all come together to be cooked at 900 hundred degrees in a wood fired oven. Your pizza is done in about 90 seconds. Their fresh mozzarella is hand-stretched from Wisconsin curd and the housemade fennel sausage is made from Berkshire breed pork. The wine and beer selection here is second to none, and you can find a drink to perfectly pair to any pizza. I forgot to mention they serve the best coffee in Bismarck and the best gelato I've had since I was in Italy.
Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence award winner 4 years running. Their meat is all sourced locally and it shows. The menu changes seasonally as fresh ingredients come available. This is Bismarck's premier romantic restaurant, perfect for date night, anniversaries and birthdays. The wine list is huge and stock full of wonderful varietals, and the great bar staff can make numerous high end cocktails. Do not miss the homemade chokecherry ice cream.
My favorite cuisine is steak. I miss the great steak houses of the south and midwest. Omaha, Tulsa and Oklahoma City had the best steak houses outside of major cities on the coasts. When moving back home, these are the places I was going to miss the most, and while Bismarck doesn't have a traditional steak house, one place comes darn close!
Broadway Grill and Tavern
The best Ribeye and Filet in Bismarck hands down! I have years of eating at some of the best steakhouses in the country, including Bohanan's steak house in San Antonio, TX to 2Johns Steak house in Bossier City, LA to Mahogany Prime Steakhouse in Tulsa, OK, and the steaks at BG&T are the wonderful. They also have great apps, my favorite being the Fritto Misto. The wine selection is one of the best in the area. Do not miss Wine-Out Thursdays where all wine is 25% off!
While Bismarck may not be known as a foodie destination, it is slowly catching on. As this city grows, it will bring more diversity and more wonderful places to eat. I can't wait!

"You can't go wrong house hunting with Derrick!!! I've known him for three years as a apartment manager and then was referred back to him by another realtor friend. He's an outstanding guy with a big heart who cares about what house your going to make your home. I'm at ease as we look at houses because with his background in construction he can pick up on expensive repairs that I had no clue would be an issue.
